Career Resources

Job-Search Resources

Job searching strategy largely breaks down into pre-interview & post-interview phases. If you're not getting interviews, you likely have a resume problem, a targeting problem, or a numbers problem. If you're getting a large number of interviews but not passing them, you likely need interview prep.
  • A Life After Layoff - A Youtube channel by a corporate recruiter on tips and tricks for the job hunter (note: more tailored towards big, corporate recruiting practices).
  • Get That Job! by Thea Kelley - A great interview prep book that tremendously helped one of the CamBC organizers. This is especially useful for academics who have only conducted post-doc or seminar-type interviews and never had a business-type interview before.
  • ChatGPT - Yes, everyone's using it. Dump your resume and the job posting and ask it to critique your resume. Don't just blindly accept the changes: you should be able to explain every single thing mentioned on the resume! There are many offshoot products using AI (e.g., Sonara AI, JobCopilot) but your mileage may vary.
